Adriana Calcanhotto

Adriana Calcanhotto is a Brazilian singer, born in Porto Alegre, on October 3rd 1965. With a drummer as her father and a ballerina as her mother, Adriana grew up with the music of Pink Floyd, Astor Piazolla, Joao Gilberto and Miles Davis. But also with the Brazilian popular music (MPB) played on her nanny’s transitor radio.

Adriana started playing music based on MPB and after she moved to Rio de Janeiro, she impressed the audience with her ability to absorb musical genres and to mix theater, music and visual art, resulting in 13 different shows. Before her first record was released, in 1990, Adriana had appeared at the Monteux Jazz Festival along side Joao Gilberto. Meanwhile, her songs began to be recorded by Brazil’s leading interpreters.

Recognized as a MPB’s young diva, Adriana Calcanhotto releases in 2000 the first live record Publico (Public), just voice and guitar, with a huge success and in 2004 a long planned project, Adriana Partimpim, an awarded album for children.
